How Tuition Assistance Works

The Guardsmen Scholarship Program provides 50% of the private school's tuition, up to $2,000 per year. Tuition checks are cut directly to the school of the parents' or guardian's choice. Scholarship awards are for one year, but scholarship recipients will continue receiving the scholarship each year until they graduate if they continue to meet the program's requirements. When funding is available, siblings of Guardsmen Scholarship recipients will also be awarded scholarships as long as they meet all of the eligibility requirements. Children entering grades K-6 who have not received a Guardsmen Scholarship in the prior year and who do not have a sibling in the program will be placed in a lottery to be held in May. Guardsmen Scholarship recipients must not also be receiving tuition assistance from BASIC Fund, CEO-Oakland, or Independent Scholarship Fund; however, they may receive school-based financial aid.
