Eligibility Requirements for New Applicants
To qualify for tuition assistance, your child must meet all of the following criteria:

1. |
The child must live in one of the nine counties in the
Bay Area. |
 |

2. |
The child must be entering one of the grades K-6 in the fall
of 2003 or they must have received a Guardsmen Scholarship in the past. |
|
|
3. |
The student must maintain a GPA of at least a 2.0 while receiving
scholarship funds. |
|
|
4. |
The child must not also receive scholarships from Basic
Fund, CEO-Oakland, or the Independent Scholarship Fund. |

5. |
The child must meet all academic and other admission
requirements of the private school to which they apply. |
|
|
6. |
The parents of the student must qualify for the federal
lunch program (see chart below). For verification, parents must submit
copies of their 2002 federal income tax returns (Form 1040) or a copy
of their AFDC or social security documents. W2 forms and/or pay stubs
are not acceptable. Foster parents, grandparents, and legal guardians
are not required to meet the income guidelines, but must send AFDC or
Social Security documents. Applications will not be processed
without verifying documents. |

Household Size: includes you, your spouse (if living at same address),
and all other family members living at your address for whom you claim
financial responsibility on your federal tax form.
Income: includes the total gross income of all household members.
Eligibility Requirements for Returning Applicants
All students who receive a Guardsmen Scholarship will be supported through
grade 12, provided they remain eligible. Returning students must meet the
following eligibility requirements.
- The student must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 while receiving the
scholarship funds.
- The student must continue to meet financial and locale requirements
of the program.
- The student must reapply each year to the program.
